Following a review of the regulatory process, we have reconsidered our course registration procedure and simplified the process to two stages: Affiliation and Accreditation. Only our Registered Courses will be promoted on our website and course providers will be invited to advertise their courses and workshops both in the Journal and on the website. All students on Registered Courses can access student insurance which enables them to practice their discipline whilst learning. We work closely with our course providers to ensure that our education standards reflect the current needs of the profession. In addition, any changes that affect CAM education will be passed on to our course providers, in the context of providing support to their work. We continually monitor standards and quality assure our courses to ensure that we safeguard both the public and our affiliated schools by providing the highest standard of educational provision.
For criteria related to training course registration, please see the relevant application form.
Affiliate Course:
A course that has applied to the ICNM Course Registration Panel and has provided sufficient evidence to confirm that the course meets the required standard for that discipline. This is reviewed every year for a maximum of 5 years and then it is anticipated that the course provider will engage with the full Accreditation process. This 5 year period is likely to match any review of occupational standards and therefore demonstrate currency of student achievement. The ICNM will appoint External Examiners to conduct the final assessment for students on these courses prior to offering Registration onto the British Register of Complementary Practitioners.
Accredited Course:
Accredited courses have been accepted by the ICNM Accreditation Panel during the course Registration process. These courses have run successfully and have been through our quality assurance process for a minimum of two years. We still appoint an External Examiner to them for the final assessment but they have demonstrated consistently high standards of education and training over their time as an affiliated course.
Occasionally some courses wish to apply for full accreditation rather than going through the normal course affiliate route. These courses are usually run by experienced providers of education with a large number of students and Graduates, and are familiar with standard course validation processes. We are always happy to work with these centres to facilitate Accreditation, and attach a separate costing for this additional work.
Annual Report - new requirement for all courses commencing September 2007
Please note that all courses are expected to send an Annual Report of their course including the course completion. This is then sent to their External Examiner for confirmation of their findings and held in the ICNM office. This quality assures our course registration process.
From September 2007, all registration courses will carry a Membership fee of £100 per course up to a maximum of £300 per Organisation.
Our Registration Panel have been actively engaged with CAM education for nearly 30 years, so please do ask for advice. We can also assist with guest lecturers; External Examination Papers; External Examiners; Supervision expertise; reviewing your curriculum; Enhancing Business Opportunities.
We continue to raise the profile of CAM at local, national and international levels, and to support Members who are interested to work in the NHS. In addition, there are at times business development or research opportunities that we can let our Schools know about and we provide an effective link for consultancy opportunities. We enjoy working with our Schools and seeing our reputation grow with them.
