The ICNM Charity (No. 1123644) provides the public with information services for the safe and appropriate choice of Complementary Medicine. The ICNM believes in promoting the standard of Best Practice in addition to the basic standard of Safe Practice for all practitioners and therapists who work within Complementary Medicine.
The ICNM actively supports the regulatory process for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). At present the ICNM is assisting several Working Groups in the field that are considering both Statutory and Voluntary Self-Regulation.

The ICNM administers the BRCP (British Register of Complementary Practitioners), established in 1989. This is the longest-running major register for CAM practitioners. This not only vets individual practitioners and their training courses but has a formal complaints and disciplinary procedure that can lead to practitioners being removed from the register.
This national Register has 24 Divisions. We also have Advisors with clinical expertise in each Division who support the Registrar with Membership applications, course accreditation processes and Research enquiries.
The ICNM recognises that CAM Practitioners make a complementary diagnosis (as distinct from a medical diagnosis) with their client/ patient. This then allows the Practitioner to suggest a treatment plan that is appropriate for the individual client/patient.
